When You Have A Baby

When you have a baby, many things change.
You behave like a Big Baby, do silly things you never did before.
You make funny faces just to make little ones laughs.
You make even funnier faces or perhaps weirder faces just to make her laughs even happier.

You sing lullaby to her and she is your first audience.
Even with a hoarse voice, you still sing to her.
Trying hard to recall every childhood song that you had learnt, just to sing to her.
Then, you start to sing with silly movement, which make both of you laugh.

When the little ones make coo-coo sound, you follow her to coo.
You coo non-stop, silly enough to make her thought that it must be a "Magic word".
You smile by just looking into her eyes and you laugh when she smiles at you.
Every single little action she did, you give her an "over-reacted" big applause.

When you have a baby, this is how silly you could be.
Silly enough to make you and her happy without a reason.
Oh God, isn't it wonderful!
To have a little ones around!

Sports Day 2013

Both Syuen and Ning was so looking forward for the Sports Day. Every day they will ask me when is the Sports Day. And every day, they will tell me how hard they had been practising in the school.

Week after week, day after day..finally, the Sports Day took place on the 29th of June 2013. Both girls woke up early that morning, feeling excited! Even I was feeling excited too! Ning Ning was a little bit down as she is only 4 years old and there was no category that she could take part. I told her that she could take part next year and this year we can be Syuen Syuen supporter. Although Ning Ning couldn't take part, I can see that she enjoyed herself on that day too, running here and there with the cousins.

As for Syuen Syuen, she is overjoyed to be the first winner. I saw her jumped so high after winning the run. She is really really happy!

After the Sports Day, I asked her how she felt. She told me that she is very happy because every time when they were training in the school, she only managed to get number three and this time, she got number one! I laughed and told her that it is always okay if we lose. There is always a winner and a loser, the outcome is never important, what matters is that we have tried our best and be participation. I'm indeed proud of her!

Rich or Poor

I came across this article when I was teaching the students. And I would like to share this very meaningful article here in my blog. This is how the story goes.

One day the father of a very wealthy family took his son to the village to show him how the poor lived. They spent a couple of days and nights in one of the poorest houses in the area.

On their return to the city, the father asked the son, "How was the trip, son?"

"It was great, Father."

"Did you see how the poor lived?" said the father.

"Yes, I did, Father," said the son.

"So, tell me what you learned from the trip?" said the father.

"I realized that we have one dog but they have four dogs. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden but they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden but they have millions of stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front garden but they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on but they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants that serve us but they serve others. We buy our food but they grow theirs. We have walls to protect us but they have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

"Thanks for showing me how poor we are, Father," added the son.

~The End~

Dare to Dream

I always wonder and of course, looking forward for this day when my kids finally graduate and having a good career. It might not be any profession or the best of all career but something that they LOVE to involve and something that they PASSION!

I asked them before what would they like to be when they grow up. Due to their tender age, this was how they answered me. SyuenSyuen answered "Mummy, I wanted to do something to deal with Mathematics." In my mind, I was thinking "Ahaa..she wanted to be an Accountant!" NingNing turned to answered "Mummy, I wanted to wear the white clothing, with a white helmet and fly to the moon." Oh my! She wanted to be an Astronaut! So, here they are, the Double "A"!

No matter what field they involved, my hubby and I will give them our full support. We believe and trust them that they can make it as long as they DARE TO DREAM! This is more important than anything else! To be success, the key is PERSISTANCE!

I'm the kinda parents who do research alot, from mental and physical development to education and to many many issues. Come to think that, perhaps I'm too "careful" in bringing them up. Am I paving a smooth pathway or perhaps too smooth?? I wouldn't want to pave a pathway for my children as they have the right to choose and to make decision. I would prefer to guide them, showing them the many pathways, the decision is still in their hands.

If one day, my children told me "Mum, I wanted to become an Artist." (which many many Asian parents' worst nightmare as they have this perception that their children couldn't make a living for being an artist because they don't earn much!) There are massive argument between career and earning issue. Well, just cut it simple. Life is simple and happiness is simple! My answer to my children is "Good! Go ahead, child and be the BEST!"

My Best Birthday Gift - They Had Grown Up

5th of August 2012, a day to remember! A day that my heart beating so fast that it almost stopped and with difficult breathing! Due to my carelessness, I lost my two girls!!

As hubby was queueing up to pay at the cashier, I decided to bring both gals to the bread shop. I wanted to buy some breads at the shop while the girls wanted to play the toy machine. Well, as the toy machine was just beside the bread shop, I decided to let them played there while I went in the shop for a few seconds. This is the WORST decision I ever made!! NEVER EVER left your children alone, not even for a few seconds, not even when they are within your sight!

One second they were still at my sight, the next second they were gone. I rushed out but couldn't find them! OMG! Bearing my tear, I quickly ran to my hubby who was paying at the cashier to see that the girls were there with their daddy! Thank God!

My first reaction was scolding SyuenSyuen. Oh great, another mistake that I made!!I shouldn't have scolded her, she must had been so scared at that time! I'm not a good mother, I was so regretted for what I had done.

After cooling down and refreshing my mind, I apologized to both my gals. "I'm sorry, SyuenSyuen and NingNing. I wouldn't repeat my mistake. Please trust me and believe me that I will keep you safe. Mummy always loves both of you."

SyuenSyuen, mummy is very proud of you as even though you are scared at that time but you are CALM and BRAVE. You didn't cry and you knew what you need to do. What I'm really proud of you is that you know how to TAKE CARE of your little sister. You didn't abandoned your younger sister but you held her hand and took her along with you.

NingNing, you did GREAT too. You are being very COOPERATE, following your sister and being BRAVE too!

Both my gals had really grown up! Mummy is very PROUD of the both of you. This is the best birthday gift from the both of you! ALWAYS LOVING YOU BOTH! :)

Flip-Flop Book

This is our very first flip-flop book and we took around one month to finish it. Since SyuenSyuen wanted to know times before dinosaur and Ice Age, we decided to go through the prehistoric time line. I had hard time finding the information and sometimes, confused with the time line. And of course, summarizing the time line and simplifing the whole stuff had been a challenge to me. Yup, me too learning something from all the research. It took me a week to do the research.

Then, we spent a day to view the slideshow from National Geographic website, a wonderful slideshow http://science.nationalgeographic.com/science/prehistoric-world/prehistoric-time-line/ SyuenSyuen loves the story line that I tried my best to tell :)

Then, we spent another week on drawing and colouring all the pictures.

Another week spent with attaching parts of the flip-flop book and pasting all the pictures in it. Finally, our very long flip-flop book was done! It took us plenty of time but it really pays off.

I put the flip-flop book together with the other storybooks in our bookshelf, it will be one of our bedtime storybooks! :)

Sports Day 2012

This year is SyuenSyuen's very first Sports Day. Thank you hubby for taking the effort to spare some time off the work to join in the fun!

Parade was the very first program to start off. SyuenSyuen had been telling me about this "walking stuff" alot these days...saying that they had been practising to parade real hard these days, instruction to follow the big brother in front, with no looking here and there and no broken line alllowed.

Standing next to SyuenSyuen's kindergarten is Preschool of SJK(C) Kuala Kuang.

Then, we had speeches from the Headmistress and Chairman of SJK(C) Kuala Kuang followed by Chairman of Tadika Chin Lai (SyuenSyuen's kindergarten). Next, the primary school children performed some dances before the real competition began!

We didn't take any pictures of SyuenSyuen's competition as we scared that we might distracted her but we took a video clip of her from FAR...real far..hahahaha..

To our surprise, SyuenSyuen managed to get Number 3! Not that we do not trust her that she can do it, it is just that to us, she is our little clumsy girl with rough action. We are happy with her achievement and seem like she is very happy too! :)

Ehhmmmm...my hubby was called out to present the awards to winners?!?!

Then, there were competition for parents or outsider to join! My hubby and my two sister-in-laws joined in the fun too! They joined in the Tug-Of-War! They had fun and of course, they won too!! :) Both contestants and spectators were excited over the game, with all the laughing and cheering!

At the end of the day, we all went home happily! What a GREAT day!! So looking forward next year!!

SyuenSyuen's 5th Birthday

After much consideration, we decided to have a small celebration for our daughter together with all her cousins rather than with her friends. At first, I was thinking to throw a small birthday party at her kindergarten but afraid that it might be troublesome for the teachers and perhaps we will disturb their learning progress. Then, my hubby suggested that perhaps we could have a small party at home with just the 4 of us. In the end, we decided to celebrate it at eldest sister-in-law's house rather than our home. It is merrier and happier if she could celebrate her birthday with all her cousins. And yes, we made the right decision. A special thanks to eldest sister-in-law for preparing all the delicious foods!

This is her birthday cake, Tiramisu Cake from Secret Recipe.

Birthday song time, with both English and Mandarin version :)

Cake Cutting Time!

Everyone is happy!

Gift Opening at home, kinda late at night and both was sweating due to the playtime at sister-in-law's house.

SyuenSyuen is overjoyed to receive the gift from her cousins. And finally our gift for her, which she had been longing for, a Barbie Doll's Bedroom and Bathroom Set!

Face Off

Recently, I found that Syuen is behaving unruly. Sometimes, I just felt that why couldn't she asked properly rather than making up a fuss. When teacher started to tell me about her behaviour at school, I knew that I have to do something about it. I could tolerant if she is not doing well in homework but I simply couldn't tolerant is she is behaving bad!

So, I guess that I need to put some effort on it. Yesterday, I taught her about types of emotions; happy, sad, angry and scared. This is what we need; two toilet roll (a big and a small). Cut a 20 cents coin circle on the big toilet roll.

Then, wrap both with a piece of white paper (here, I used recycled paper).

After that, paste a round cardboard (I used a harder material so that it can last longer) under the smaller toilet roll.

Put the smaller toilet roll into the bigger toilet roll.

Now, we can draw the pictures, shown as below. Letting Syuen to observe the difference beween the eyes, the eyebrow and the mouth when in different mood. Then, a little bit of tricky when I'm deciding on the character. In the end, I chose to draw a little girl (representing Syuen), a man (representing Syuen's dad or any adults) and an astronaut (representing even the man in SPACE or any kinds of people).

After observing the look, the real lesson started. We turned the faces to happy look. Then, I told Syuen that we all wanted to be happy; we looked great when we are happy; everyones LOVE happy people.

Sometimes, we will feel sad too. Some of us will express it by crying; some of us feeling sad but still strong enough to witheld the tears; some of us chose to be strong even though feeling down. We need to control our emotions.

Everyone is scared of something. We should understand this feeling and try our best to overcome it.

And finally, we had our angry faces. When we angry, we look ulgy. When we angry, we have to angry at the RIGHT PERSON, RIGHT TIME, RIGHT PLACE and RIGHT DEGREE!

Leaving Her Nanny Soon

After much consideration, we decided to put Li Syuen under our own care.

December will be a month of trying out. First and foremost, we are worried that Li Syuen might wear out due to long hours of staying up. Secondly, we are still feeling uncomfortable as she had to cut down her outdoor activity due to our working schedule. Thirdly, we are worried that she might not adapt to the new "locked or restricted" environment.

Under the care of her nanny and nanny's husband, Li Syuen spent most of her evening time playing at the playground or farming. Li Syuen had been to all the playground available in Kuala Kuang. She knew the location of every playground better than I! Other than playing at the playground, she will do some farming stuff with her uncle. She will do some digging, shoveling, planting, watering and harvesting. An evening spent with great outdoor activities. It is really a pity to give up that very precious evening activity. I managed to take a photo or two of the small little farm that ran by Li Syuen and her uncle. Pardon me as I took the photos from my car :P

Somerimes, she helped her uncle to feed the chicken and washed away the chicken's shit.

Couldn't imagine that Li Syuen was taken care by them for almost 5 years now. Li Syuen was taken care by her nanny on her 2nd month of birth now that she is leaving her nanny soon, she and I feel kinda pity and sad.

Li Ning was also under the care of the same nanny since her 2nd month of birth. Now, it is Li Ning's turn to replace Li Syuen, going to all the playground and do the farming stuff. Hope both of them enjoy every moment no matter wherever and whenever they are.

A Late Coming Prize

18 November 2011, I attended the Graduation Ceremony of SJK(C) Kuala Kuang, together with the Kuala Kuang Pre-school and Li Syuen's kindergarten. Some of the parents felt puzzled that why I attended the ceremony as Li Syuen is only 4 years old. I guess that I attended the ceremony because I had something in my mind that I needed to do. First, of course is for congratulating and farewelling my Primary 6 and K2 students. Secondly, is for accompany Li Syuen.

This year Li Syuen got number 4 in her class, we as her parents are so proud of her but we handled it with low profile. As her friends who managed to get top 3 in her class going up the stage to get their prizes, I noticed that Li Syuen looked sad. I kept quiet and see how will she response. Then, she asked me "Mummy, why I didn't get any prize?" I told her that because they worked harder than you. To my surprise, she told me "Mummy, I worked hard too!" At that time, I'm really at the lost of word. But, in my mind I knew that she had to OVERCOME this DISAPPOINTMENT all by herself. Too much word of comforting will make thing worse so, I gave her words of ENCOURAGEMENT! After a few minutes of inspiring her, she is fine and being happy again. I think that we should all work SMART but not work HARD but most important of all is ENJOYING the PROCESS and forget all about the OUTCOME. I hope that one day, Li Syuen and Li Ning understand this.

This is indeed a very good opportunity for Li Syuen to learn to stand back on her own feet and to overcome disappointment. I had always feeling uneasy with the school issue, especially when it comes to "awarding" someone. In my mind, we study to gain knowledge not to get award. And we deeply hope that Li Syuen understand this. That's why I always handle with great care when it comes to school issue.

On the last day of school, as I was busy on that day, my hubby picked her up from school. She is extremely happy and her father wandered why. When they reached office, she told her dad that "Daddy, I had something to show you..I get first prize in the computer contest!" Her dad was overjoyed. Of course, me too! All we said to her is "Well Done" and we spent the day together AS USUAL. We didn't make a fuss about it because we do not what her to feel proud. And of course, we do not want her to be so obsess with the award.

I can see that she is in love with her trophy. She was busy the whole day with the trophy. She cleaned it, she wiped it, she swung it, she hugged it, she carried it wherever she went!! Thank God for this LATE COMING PRIZE cause she is definitely learning something from there!
